The Best Way to throw javelin
Want to become awesome at throwing javelin? Here's how to do it step by step!
- Grip the javelin correctly - Hold it along the cord grip with your thumb and index finger creating a 'V' shape. The javelin should rest diagonally across your palm.
- Master the approach - Start with a slow jog, holding the javelin at eye level. Keep your elbow high and pointed forward.
- Do the crossover steps - As you get closer to throwing, cross your right foot behind your left (if you're right-handed), then left foot behind right. This builds up power!
- Pull back to throw - Turn your hips and shoulders sideways, pulling the javelin back. Your throwing arm should be straight and parallel to the ground.
- Release! - Push off your right foot, rotate your hips forward, and whip your throwing arm over the top. Release the javelin at about a 45-degree angle.
Pro Tips:
- Keep your elbow high during the throw
- Point the javelin tip slightly up
- Follow through after releasing
