The Best Way to keep ducks
Keeping ducks can be super fun! Here's what you need to know to be an awesome duck keeper:
Housing Basics
- You need at least 4 square feet of space per duck inside their coop
- The coop should be predator-proof with solid walls and secure locks
- Ducks need a dry, draft-free shelter that protects them from rain and wind
- Add clean straw or pine shavings for bedding
Water Requirements
- Ducks MUST have water deep enough to dip their whole head in
- A kiddie pool works great for swimming
- Change water daily to keep it clean
- Never let water freeze in winter
Food & Diet
- Feed duck-specific pellets (chicken feed isn't good enough)
- Offer fresh greens and veggies as treats
- Always have food and water available
- Adult ducks eat about 1/2 cup of feed per day
Daily Care
- Clean the coop weekly
- Check for eggs daily
- Spend time with your ducks - they're social!
- Watch for signs of illness like limping or not eating
